Case study · GetMyTradeOnline

A whole software business for UK trades, built and run by agents

GetMyTradeOnline is our own product and the first thing we built this way: websites, a directory, a growth system and the tools to run them, all on one codebase.

  • 5,668commits since 20 November 2025
  • 3,145backlog jobs done by agents
  • 1codebase for the marketing site, client sites, directory, studio and dashboard

Counted from our backlog database and git history on 18 October 2026.

The problem

Trades overpay for websites Google can't find

Most trades are good at the job and short on time. Many pay for websites that look fine, have no sitemap and never show up when a local customer searches.

They pay for shared leads and reports they can't check, too. We wanted to give them something that works, costs almost nothing to start and doesn't lock them in.

What we built

Free to start, run for you if you want it

A free website, built from the trade's Google listing in about a minute, with a page for every job they do and every town they cover.

A free listing on the GetMyTradeOnline directory, where nobody can pay to rank.

A growth system for trades who want us to run it all: their Google profile, their website and a tracked number.

Every enquiry is texted straight to the trade, so work reaches them while they are on a job.

Under the hood

One codebase runs the whole business

GetMyTradeOnline is a multi-tenant platform: one Next.js application serves the marketing site, every client website, the directory, the sales studio and the client dashboard.

Each site's words and layout live in the database. Pages are built from shared blocks, so a fix to one block reaches every site at once.

The same fleet of agents works the backlog every day: fixing bugs, building features, tightening the design system and keeping the checks green.

  • Next.js and TypeScript
  • PostgreSQL with Prisma
  • Hosted on Fly.io behind Cloudflare
  • Stripe for billing, Twilio for texts
  • A Material 3 design system
  • An agent fleet working one backlog
Honestly

Where it is now

  • The core is built and people use it every day. Now we are refining it.
  • It has paying clients, and it is still early.
  • The figures on this page are counted from our own systems, not estimated.
